How to take care of your 100% Human Hair extensions

Daily Care

Brushing

  • Use an extension brush or a wide-tooth comb
  • Brush 2–3 times a day to prevent matting, especially at the nape of your neck
  • Hold the hair at the root while brushing to avoid pulling on the bonds

Washing

  • Wash less frequently than usual — ideally 2–3 times a week — to prevent drying out the extensions
  • Use sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoos and conditioners specifically designed for extensions
  • Avoid scrubbing or rubbing vigorously. Instead, gently massage the shampoo and conditioner into your hair, focusing on the scalp and working your way down
  • Rinse thoroughly, ensuring no product buildup remains

Drying

  • Gently pat your hair with a microfiber towel to absorb excess water. Avoid rubbing, as it can cause tangling
  • Air drying is the best option for preserving quality. If you need to use a blow dryer, use a low heat setting with a heat protectant spray and focus on the roots and bonds first

Care by Extension Type

Styling Tips

  • Heat styling: Use heat sparingly and always apply a heat protectant before using any hot tools. See our heat styling best practices guide and hair styling tools guide.
  • Updos: Be gentle when styling in updos or braids — tight hairstyles can put stress on the bonds
  • Swimming: Before swimming, wet your hair with fresh water and apply a leave-in conditioner. Wear a swim cap if possible. After swimming, rinse thoroughly and wash with a clarifying shampoo
  • Sleeping: Before bed, gently brush your hair and loosely braid it or tie it in a low ponytail to prevent tangling. Use a silk or satin pillowcase or bonnet to reduce friction. See our sleeping with extensions guide.

Maintenance

  • Regular salon visits: Schedule regular appointments with your stylist for professional maintenance — tightening, removing, or replacing extensions as needed
  • Deep conditioning: Use a deep conditioner once a week to keep extensions hydrated and prevent dryness. See our complete virgin hair maintenance guide and our 12-month longevity guide.

Things to Avoid

  • Harsh chemicals: Avoid products containing sulfates, parabens, and alcohol — they dry out and damage extensions
  • Over-washing: Washing too frequently strips extensions of their natural oils, leading to dryness and breakage
  • Rough handling: Be gentle when brushing, washing, and styling
  • Ignoring professional advice: Follow your stylist's instructions carefully for your specific extension type

By following these tips, you can keep your hair extensions looking healthy, vibrant, and beautiful for as long as possible. Always consult with your stylist if you have any questions or concerns.
