Washing Your Wig

How Often to Wash:

  • Daily Wear: Every 2 weeks
  • Occasional Wear: Every 7–10 wears
  • After Product Buildup: When hair feels heavy or sticky

Washing Instructions:

  1. Detangle First: Gently brush from ends to roots with a wide-tooth comb
  2. Fill Basin with Cool Water: Add sulfate-free shampoo
  3. Submerge Wig: Gently swish in water (never rub or twist)
  4. Rinse Thoroughly: Use cool running water until water runs clear
  5. Apply Conditioner: Focus on mid-lengths to ends, avoid lace
  6. Rinse Again: Cool water until all conditioner is removed
  7. Pat Dry: Gently squeeze excess water with a towel
  8. Air Dry on Stand: Place on wig stand to dry naturally

What to Avoid:

  • ❌ Hot water (loosens knots and damages lace)
  • ❌ Rubbing or twisting (causes tangling)
  • ❌ Washing while wearing (damages lace)
  • ❌ Conditioner on lace (causes shedding)

Installing Your Wig

Lace Front & Closure Wigs:

  1. Prep Your Hair: Braid or slick down natural hair
  2. Wear a Wig Cap: Protects natural hair and provides grip
  3. Position the Wig: Align lace with natural hairline
  4. Secure with Combs: Clip combs into braids
  5. Adjust Straps: Tighten for snug fit
  6. Apply Adhesive (Optional): Use wig glue or tape along hairline
  7. Customize Lace: Trim excess lace and tint if needed

See our wig installation methods guide for a full walkthrough of every install technique.

Styling Your Wig

Heat Styling:

  • Maximum Temperature: 450°F (230°C)
  • Always Use Heat Protectant before styling
  • Style on Wig Stand for easier handling

See our heat styling best practices guide and hair styling tools guide.

Lace Customization

Not sure which lace type your wig has? See our HD vs transparent vs Swiss lace guide. To customize:

  • Trim excess lace leaving 1/8 inch at hairline
  • Tint lace with foundation or lace tint to match your skin tone
  • Pluck hairline in an irregular pattern for a natural look

Nighttime Care

  • Detangle gently before bed
  • Braid or twist loosely to prevent tangling
  • Wear a satin bonnet or sleep on a satin pillowcase
  • Store on a wig stand covered with a hair net

See our sleeping with extensions guide for full nighttime tips.

Wig Lifespan

  • Daily Wear: 6–12 months
  • Occasional Wear: 1–2 years with proper care
